I have recently installed LEAP on my laptop with Windows Vista and after the instalation I run the programm and it lasts for less that a second on and it automatically shuts down, I can't do anything in the program before it crashes.

I have tried reinstalling many times but it just won't work. Somebody had the same problem or knows how to help me?

    Thanks before hand.

    Hi Francisco,

This sounds like this could be an an admin rights issue. I recommend verifying that you have full administrative rights to the PC that you're installing on and then re-install.

If this does not help, please provide more detail on the issue such as exact error message text (either in LEAP or Windows) and the LEAP.log file (found in the LEAP settings folder).

    Thanks,

    Tory

    *edit*
Maybe here's the problem. I explicitly gave full Administrator access on my computer to the entire LEAP folder and the problem persisted with no error text or messege.
So I looked for the LEAP.log file that you sugested and it revealed no error:

    Hi Francisco,

I'm sorry this is not resolving quickly.

Just to verify, there are a few different ways to operate as an administrator on Windows Vista, any of which may be causing issues with the proper download and installation of LEAP.

    1. To download LEAP properly you must be logged in as the administrator (not another user on the same computer) and then you must run LEAP at least once with these administrative rights so that registry keys can install properly.

    2. Next you should set the properties of the LEAP program files folder (C:\Program Files\LEAP on Vista) to give full control to all users. For more information on where LEAP files are stored see this: http://tinyurl.com/5wupny

    3. If LEAP is not running as an administrator, you can right click on the LEAP.exe file and click "Run as Administrator"

Also, take a look at this similar discussion:

Let me know if this solves the problem. Best,

    Tory

I've done everything suggested and still (amazingly) I haven't been able to run the program, not even once. I have only one user in my laptop, which is (obviously) the Administrator. Nevertheless, I uninstalled the program completely and ran the instalator with explicit Administrator permits, then gave the LEAP folder full administrator powers for all the users and then ran the LEAP.exe explicitly as the Administrator. And not even doing that there was a change.

The folder are correctly distributed as seen in the image you linked before.

I'm running out of ideas here, is this case so rare? Could it be a problem that my Windows Vista version is in Spanish? (I'm chilean, so the OS came this way on my laptop).

Anyhow, I will try and install the program in an other PC at home, because I need to start using it urgently. Please give me any further ideas of how to solve this, I REALLY want to run it on my personal laptop.

Sorry for being so annoying! And thanks for all the help!

Are there any LEAP users having problems running LEAP in Windows Vista? Please review the issue below:

After installing LEAP version 2008.0079 with Administrative rights on a computer with Windows Vista, a first time user is not able to run LEAP. Running the LEAP.exe application results in the LEAP window opening but automatically closing after a few seconds without any error message. It is not possible to do anything in LEAP before it closes.

If you have experienced this please respond to this forum posting with specific information on how you resolved the issue. If you are also having this issue, please post to ensure that you get an email once the issue is resolved. Forum URL: http://tinyurl.com/2ddtjkw

If you are having other issues with LEAP please read on for resources to aid in troubleshooting and solving LEAP problems.

Posting to the COMMEND site will ensure the fastest and most complete response (faster than direct email and error reports). When creating a new post, please include as much of the following information as possible:

    - What were you doing and what part of LEAP were you using when problem occurred?
    - Is the problem reproducible and what exact steps would we need to take to do that?
    - Operating system version (Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, etc.)
    - Language and regional number formatting (e.g. 1,234.56 or 1.234,56)
    - Version of LEAP (check Help: About)
    - Exact text of any error messages you get (in LEAP and Windows)
    - Have you submitted an error report?

NB: Though we monitor error reports, they are most useful when connected to a forum posting.

I have just solved the problem!!
Reading your previous post it occurred to me that maybe the Region Configuration was giving problems, because in the spanish-speaking versions of Windows the default decimal separator is the comma and not the point (and the other way around with the thousand separator), so I change the configuration to a English (USA) default and the program ran just fine!

What bothers me is that Vista didn't noted this error explicitly, and the program closed silently after lauching. Hope my experience may help others in the future, specially people from spanish-speaking countries.

    Regards.

    Francisco Contreras C.

    Hi Francisco,

You are correct that the regional configuration can affect how LEAP operates. The Decimal Symbol must be different from the List Separator for LEAP to distinguish between data. It seems that the default for many Spanish-speaking countries is for both to be a comma.

The two ways to fix this are:

    1) Change to the English (USA) configuration (as you did)

    2) Manually edit the Region and Language Additional Settings and change the list separator to a new symbol like a semicolon ";"

    Cheers,

    Tory

    Hi Dereje,

The second message is typically due to a restrictive firewall or unreliable internet connection rather than with LEAP. You can always email leap@sei-us.org directly or post to the forum with issues.

If this becomes an issue in the future, you can disable all use of the internet in LEAP by putting an empty text file named "internet.no" in the LEAP program files folder (C:\Program Files\LEAP).

The first issue is likely caused by one of three things. Please read the forum post below for more information on how to solve that problem.

    http://tinyurl.com/62senqf

If the problem persists, please fill out a LEAP Problem Report (found at the url below) and email it to leap@sei-us.org.
