    I recently installed LEAPv2008.0.0.90 on win7 (home basic 64bit).
When I open the program, it presents "a script engine for specified language can not be created"
    What should I do?
    Any ideas?
    THANKS
    YOYO

    Hi YOYO,

This error message is not one we see often, but it sounds like there was an error with installation. Were you ever able to run the program?

First I recommend checking to make sure that admin rights, number configurations and user account control are not interfering with installation. Here's what you should check:

    1. Administrative rights

    - To download LEAP properly you must be logged in as the administrator (not another user on the same computer) and then you must run LEAP at least once with these administrative rights so that registry keys can install properly.

    - Next you should set the properties of the LEAP program files folder (C:\Program Files\LEAP on Win7) and LEAP Settings folder (C:\ProgramData\LEAP Settings) to give full control to all users. For more information on where LEAP files are stored see this: http://tinyurl.com/5wupny

    2. Language and Regional Configuration Settings

    - Check in Control Panel/Region and Language to see what "Format" you are using on your computer.

    - Next, on the Region and Language screen (and on the "Formats" tab, click on "Additional Settings" at the bottom right. Verify that the decimal symbol is a different symbol from the list separator. If they are different, you may continue to 3. If they are the same, you have 2 options.
    1. Change to the English (USA) configuration
    2. Manually edit the Region and Language Additional Settings and change the list separator to a new symbol like a semicolon ";"

    3. User Account Control

    - You can change the User Account Control (UAC) Settings on your PC (if using Vista or Windows 7). I suggest you temporarily switch off UAC by going to the "User Accounts" section of control panel and clicking on "Change User Account Control Settings." Then select "never notify." If LEAP then runs OK you can switch UAC back on and gradually try setting an increased level of security in the UAC settings.

    ------

Once you've checked these settings, I recommend reinstalling LEAP and seeing if your problem is resolved.

If not, try to manually register LEAP's scripting elements. You can do that by opening a command window, changing directory to the program files\leap folder and then typing in:

    LEAP.EXE /regserver

This will run LEAP but then exit immediately.

Please let me know what happens when you do this.

    Best,

    Tory

    Dear all,

I have tried to follow with your method but it can't resolve the problem yet. So, are there any more option/solution?

    Hi Pasalath,

You submitted a LEAP Problem Report previously with some additional information, but you mentioned that you were uninstalling and installing both LEAP 2008 and LEAP 2011. Can you try uninstalling both versions of LEAP and try first installing only LEAP 2011 to see if that localizes the problem.

I also notice that you do not have a full license for LEAP. Based on your credentials, I just approved a license for you. Please use this license to register the software.

Please let me know what happens when you do this.

    Dear Tory,

I am having the same problem. Already installed and uninstalled several times the program (version 2008) and tried once even with 2011.
I checked the language, administrative and account rights and everything is in order.

I used to work perfectly well with LEAP but I don't know what happened.

Can you give me further recommendations?

    Thanks in advance,
    Elizabeth.

    Hi all,

Can you tell me what happens after you see this message? I suspect that your version of Windows simply does not include the required script engine. I do NOT think this message relates to improper installation of LEAP, but rather it relates to a part of Windows that is missing.

If LEAP continues to start up OK after you see this message, then you can safely ignore it. The only problem you are likely to encounter would be in using the Advanced (API/scripting) options.

However, if LEAP terminates after you see this message, please let me know and we will investigate further on what can be done.

    Best,

    Charlie

    Dr. Charles,

Thanks a lot for your answer. Actually, LEAP terminates after the message appears. Is there a way I can locate the proper API/scripting options that my Windows is missing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Elizabeth.

OK - thanks - I will look into this. It shoud be possible to have LEAP not terminate if it receives that message.

In the meantime, you may be able to find a copy of windows script that you can install separately. Here is a link to a version for Windows XP:

    Thanks,

Unfortunately I work with Windows Vista and the script does not work with that. I looked for any other script that works with Vista but couldn't find anyone.

Do you know where I can find one?

    Elizabeth.

    Hi again Elizabeth,

I'm not having much luck with this issue. However, it seems there are a few possible explanations:

    1. Your copy of windows scripting may be missing some crucial files. Some Internet postings seem to suggest that installing a recent version of Internet Explorer should cause the scripting to be re-installed. Let us know what version of Internet Explorer is installed on your PC. The current version is IE9 by the way.

    2. Perhaps you have used other tools that somehow set Windows to use a different default scripting language (not VBScript)? I have made a few changes to LEAP that I hope will make it more robust in these situations. I have also tried to alter LEAP so that it will simply ignore any errors during scripting. I will post that new version later today (so when you see v2011.025 has been posted, please get that).

If this fails to solve the problem then I suggest that you either reinstall Windows (not a nice option) or perhaps its better to simply use LEAP on a different computer (if you have one available).

    Best,

    Charlie
