I've recently downloaded and installed LEAP for use in a class. I made the mistake of changing the default Area and Work data directories for LEAP and now I can't start LEAP to even change them back.

The symptoms: I can start it up, and pick one of "Freedonia" or "New Freedonia". As soon as I do, LEAP continues loading for a second before Windows XP closes it with the "LEAP has encountered a problem and needs to close" dialog box. The "Click here" link gives me this information:

    AppName: leap.exe
    AppVer: 2008.0.0.94
    ModName: kernel32.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781
    Offset: 00012afb

I click close on that, and a final debug window pops up with

"Exception EDBEngineError in module Leap.exe at 003CCD9E. Invalid file name."

I've tried uninstalling the version I downloaded a week ago, and installing the new 2008.0.0.94 version, but it still crashes. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can get back to a working state?

If it's pertinent, I changed the directory paths to point to a network drive.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

I don’t believe LEAP currently supports using network drives as you are describing.

I suggest you reset settings so LEAP goes back to default folders. You can do this as follows:

    • Close LEAP
    • Start: Run Regedit
    • Find folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stockholm Environment Institute\LEAP
    • Delete it.
    • Rerun LEAP

After this your default folders should be found at the paths below.

    LEAP Areas: C:\Users\*Your Username*\My Documents\LEAP Areas
    Work: C:\Users\*Your Username*\My Documents\LEAP Areas\_Work
    LEAP Settings: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LEAP Settings

Please let me know if you have any further issues.

    Tory

Sweet! That does the trick. Thank you.

As an aside, I'm surprised by the not-supported comment. I haven't worked with Windows heavily in about 6 years, but I recall being able to treat all paths uniformly via their UNC. It's been awhile though, so details aren't fresh.

Anyhoo, it's working now, so thanks again!

Glad to hear that the issue was resolved.

And on the issue of supporting network paths, I think the shortcoming is not from Windows, but rather from the Borland Database Engine (BDE) that LEAP uses.

    Best,
