    Hello,

I have a question concerning the introduction of energy savings in a scenario. Let's say, for example, that I have a bottom-up households sector (households->sub-sector->end use->fuel type), and I want to introduce the energy savings announced by the government. These energy savings are aggregate (e.g. upgrading the building shells in terms of energy efficiency->200GWh).

Is there any way I can introduce them to a scenario? Or is this impossible because of the relatively bottom-up Households sector I have built?

    Thank you in advance.

    Best Regards,

    Argiro

    Hi Argiro,

It will be hard to introduce total energy savings into a bottom-up model. This is because you must enter energy consumption (or savings) at the fuel level in the tree. That means that to include high-level energy savings in a bottom-up model you would have to make assumptions about how each end use would make up the total energy savings.

A decoupled approach is another option for setting up your model. This would allow you to create a folder specific to scenarios to subtract energy savings from the baseline for different mitigation measures.

For more information on this structure see below:

    Hello Tory,

Thank you for your quick response. It is indeed not possible to make assumptions about how each end use would contribute to the total energy savings.

If my baseline in the sectors I want to introduce the savings is bottom-up based (households, industry, transport), is it impossible to create this specific folder you are referring to?

How can this "Policies" folder be created?

    Hi Argiro,

If you have chosen to do a bottom up model with end uses it will be impossible to deduct high level savings from the baseline.

This is only possible if you use a top-down or decoupled approach. The new folders for policies I mentioned is specific to decoupled models where you start with a top down baseline and then subtract slices off based on different mitigation policies.
