I tried opening our LEAP Ireland model using the new LEAP 2011 and I get an error message saying

    ‘BDE2NX.exe has stopped working’

    and then

‘Error during conversion of odl format area. Conversion did not complete successfully.’

Any ideas for dealing with this??

    Hi Brian,

FYI, BDE2NX is a separate program distributed with LEAP that does one time conversions of datasets from the old file format (that used the BDE - the Borland Database Engine) to the new file format (which by the way uses the Nexus Database Format (see http://www.nexusdb.com)

The early beta version of LEAP had problems with BDE2NX failing under a couple of conditions:

    1. Your PC had insufficient access rights. BDE2NX needs to be run with admin rights. However, the non beta versions of LEAP2011 now do a pretty good job of running it correctly. Suggest you make sure you have the latest version (currently LEAP2011.013). I suspect you may have the older beta version. Please also check your PC is running with full admin rights. That may not be the case if you are running in a tightly controlled environment such as a University network. If problems continue please fill out a full error report here:

    http://tinyurl.com/LEAPProblemReport

    2. Another program is currently using the BDE. Older versions of LEAP and WEAP (and other tools) use the BDE. However, LEAP2011 should already check that they are not running.

If all else fails you can either try running LEAP on another PC or send me your older data set and I can convert it for you. Just takes a minute or two.

    I hope this helps,

    Best,

    Charlie

    Thanks Charlie.

    Regarding your point 1 ...

I am using 2011.013 - I received a prompt when I started LEAP this morning. I was having the same problem last week with the previous beta version.

I'm confident I have the full admin access I require but I'll check with our system admin people.

I asked one of our research group to try it (another pc) and she had the same problem.

    Regarding p[oint 2 ..

It's a new machine I'm using so I don't have old LEAP - I'm not working on any other packages that may be using BDE.

I'll fill out the report and send you the data set.

    All the best,

    Brian

    Hi again Brian,

I got your data set and have converted it OK. Will send back via email.

BDE2NX will only run if the BDE itself is installed. If you have never installed the older version of LEAP then you wont have the BDE installed and I suspect that is the problem you are facing.

LEAP is supposed to detect that situation and warn you accordingly but it seems to not be working on your PC.

I will look into this and try and get it fixed in the next version, but in the meantime I believe the solution is to install the older version of LEAP on your PC (even if you don't use it this will cause the BDE to be installed).

    Best,

    Charlie
