    Hi Tory!

I was wondering if you can help me: I'm modelling a region consuming only electricity and natural gas. All the electricity and natural gas are imported to the region.

In a later stage, the region will start producing renewable electricity (solar). The thing is that I don't want to use this electricity to attend the electricity demand, I rather want to export all the electricity produced! How can I do this? I tried using the option "Priority use of output: Exports" on the output fuel properties of the electricity generation module that I created for this purpose, but it's not working...!

I hope you can help me!

    Thank you!

    Hi Luis,

You should be able to set this using the "Output Properties" tab for the Transformation\Electricity\Output fuels branch as you mentioned.

Can you tell me what version of LEAP you are currently using? Please first update to the latest using the Help: Check for Updates feature. If the problem persists, please send a copy of your dataset to leap@sei-us.org so that we can investigate further.

    Best,

    Tory

    Hello again!

I'm using the latest version: LEAP 2011.0016.

I'll send the dataset to the email you mentioned.

    Thank you!

    Hi Luis,

Thanks for sending your dataset. 2 things of note:

    1) The latest version of LEAP is 2011.0.0.21, so I recommend updating to that first, though it should not affect the current situation.

    2) The reason you are not seeing exports is that you have not yet set an Export Target. Since LEAP is a demand-driven model, even though you have set the priority of the outputs to export, LEAP sees no demand for exports and therefore uses the output to meet domestic demands. Go to Transformation\Electricity\Output Fuels to create an Export target.

    Best,

    Tory

    Hi Tory,

Thank for your quick response! Anyway I would like to reply to your notes:

    1) The update feature of the software seems not to be working right. I've just checked for update a few minutes ago, and LEAP delivers a message saying I have the latest version: 2011.0.0.16!

2)OK! I did that I it's working now! Although I think I found a bug: despite the energy unit I choose to set export target (MWh, TOE, ...), LEAP allways assume GJ as the energy unit!

    Example:

Export target: 1000 MWh - Results: 1000 GJ
    : 500 TOE - : 500 GJ
    : 233 BTU - : 233 GJ

    Thanks again!

    Regards

    Luís

    Hi Luis,

    1) This does sometimes happen. In these cases, you can always download the latest version directly from the COMMEND website by going to www.tinyurl.com/LEAPDownload

    2) This does appear to be a bug - I will look into this and let you know once it is resolved.

    Best,

    Tory
