I have downloaded the exercise ("FreedoniaEX1.leap"-"FreedoniaEX5.leap"),but in the new version LEAP2012.0037 it could not be opened. It's said "Error opening area freedoniaEX1.Installing and converting older format areas is unavailable to standard Windows users."
How can I open the file with suffix.leap in the new version?Or where can I download new exercises?

    Regards,
    Chen

    Hi Chen,

With the latest version of LEAP you don't need to download anything, all of the files come directly within LEAP. For example, to have access to the completed Exercise 1 file, you need to open "Freedonia" and go to Area: Revert to version, and select "Exercise 1 Completed - Introductory Exercises" - this will give you the Freedonia file after completing all activities in EX1.

You can access additional files through the Area: Install: Install from Internet menu, though any file created in a previous version of LEAP will require administrative rights to be converted.

    Best,

    Tory

Hello, I'd like further advice on how to associate / convert my older work for the current LEAP. My areas are not even showing in the list of areas to open even though they should be in the right folder. What are the next steps to take?

    Hi Suvisanna,

What version was your "older work" created in - LEAP 2008? If so, you will have a different folder for LEAP Areas (from 2008) and LEAP 2011 Areas (from 2011 and 2012 versions).

If this is the case you will want to convert them to the latest file format. You should be able to copy the areas folders into the new "LEAP 2011 Areas" folder, and then they will show in the list of areas with an asterisk (*), but you will need Administrative rights to your PC to be able to do the conversion.

    Best,

    Tory

    Hi Tory,

Thanks for your advice. My older version was probably 2008 - the folder name is as you say. However, I had my old areas already in the LEAP 2011 Areas -folder, without asterisk, and couldn't open them. I'm now copying them again and let's see if anything changes.

    Best,

    Suvisanna

    Hi Suvisanna,

Please check and let me know how it works. If it does not, I would have you check a few things:

    1. Are you sure that each LEAP Areas folder is located firectly in the new LEAP 2011 Areas folder? You can check this by opening one folder (i.e. LEAP 2011 Areas/Freedonia/) and seeing if there is another folder or only database files. We want to see only database files.

    2. Are you trying to put LEAP files directly into the LEAP Areas folder? This would mean moving a Freedonia.leap file into the LEAP areas folder rather than the folder of database files. If you are doing this you should great a folder with the same name and then put the .leap file inside of it, like the example below.

    LEAP 2011 Areas/Freedonia/Freedonia.leap

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Tory,

I checked the folders like you advised:

    1. Yes, each LEAP Areas folder is located firectly in the new LEAP 2011 Areas folder. Database files only in each area folder.

    2. All files are located as in your example LEAP 2011 Areas/Freedonia/Freedonia.leap - except for one thing. I can't see .leap files anywhere - neither in the areas I can open, or ones that I can't.

Maybe the problem has something to do with this?

    Hi,

I should add that no asterisks are also showing anywhere, so I guess no folder is recognized for conversion.

    Best,

    Suvisanna

    Hi Suvisanna,

In terms of my suggestions on the folders, I meant that you should either see 1 or 2, not both. The fact that you see LEAP 2011 Areas/Freedonia/database files means that things are working correctly.

When I refer to asterisks, I mean that when you are in LEAP 2012 you should be able to go to the Area: Open menu and see a list of LEAP areas available to you. Old files that need to be converted would be listed with an asterisk (e.g. *Freedonia). Can you confirm that this is what you are doing?

What version of LEAP are you currently using? Can you go to the Help: About LEAP menu and copy and paste that information into a reply here.

    Thanks!

    Tory

    Hi Tory,

Thank you for those clarifications as again and sorry, I wasn't able to return earlier.

Yes, I can see the path LEAP 2011 Areas/Freedonia/database files, and all other folders are organized the same way. Even the ones I can't open.

With areas that I can't open, I mean that I can't see them in the Open menu, even though they are under LEAP 2011 Areas folder.

    I'm using version: 2012.0.0.37.

    Thanks again,

    Suvisanna

    Hi Suvisanna,

I'm sorry this is not resolving quickly. Can I please ask again that you go to the Help: About LEAP menu (in LEAP 2012) and copy and paste that information into a reply here?

This will give me more information to help diagnose this issue.

    Hi Tory,

Sorry for the delay again. Right now, my computer with LEAP is being reinstalled (for other reasons). I'm expecting to get it back in a few days. Let's see, if this could solve the issue. In case not, I'd prefer to email those data to you. Would that be ok?

    Best,

    Suvisanna

    Hi Suvisanna,

Please let me know how this works when you reinstall LEAP. Be sure to install LEAP with full administrative privileges and to run LEAP at least once with these rights to ensure that registry keys install correctly.

If you are having trouble with a specific data set please email it to me at leap@sei-us.org.

    Best,

    Tory
