    Hello,

I am trying to use the starter data for Indonesia that you provided me and have run into a problem when I try to obtain the results.

When I click 'Results' or 'Energy Balance', LEAP returns an error dialog box that says fuel shares sum to 0% when they should sum to 100%. I found that in the Demand>Industry>Non Ferrous Metals>Baseline branch in the analysis view, the reason is because the expression for Non Ferrous Metals is user-defined as an expression at 0% for coal, the only fuel used in the process, until 1990. I assume this was the first year such data was available. After further searching I noticed some other industrial processes such as Machinery also have this issue.

How can I proceed to results and/or energy balance if there are no data for these industrial processes until 1990? I was thinking of duplicating the data set and removing all the historical data before 1990, but is there another way around the issue?

    Thank you,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

Apologies for the terribly late response, we're just doing a bit of catch-up now. No doubt you've solved your problem by now, but it would still be useful to answer your question for other users with the same problem.

Many of the National Starter Data Sets were created with an older version of LEAP, one that didn't treat percent shares as strictly as the newer versions of the software. We're continually working to update and upgrade the data sets to improve compatibility.

The branches in the starter data sets are based on a template, and we don't always have the necessary information to fill the template for each country. Often the fuel shares under the Non-Ferrous Metals, and others, sum to zero, when in fact they really should sum to 100%. If there is no activity in a particular branch under the Baseline scenario, then you can safely remove the branch. This is basically what you have already suggested.

    Best of luck,

    Taylor
