    Hi everyone!
    I have this question about the transmission and distribution;
Why when I add that module to my model it automatically adds some requirements in the transformation output results?

I have my energy generation module ok, but when I add the t&d module the outputs increases at double (without putting any percent of loosses). Why would that be?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Jorge,

It sounds to me like when you created the Transmission and Distribution module, you may not have checked the box for "Simple non-dispatched module: one output fuel per process". In this case, the output fuel is chosen in the losses (or efficiency, depending on how you've set up your module) tab of each of the processes under Transmission and Distribution. If you explicitly specify an additional output fuel, then you would see your electricity production double.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the answer Taylor

Actually I did check that option, I noticed that the Transmission and Distribution value is the same as the Power Plants Electricity Generation. That value is set as I add the T&D module, not sure what could be making that happen, do you think that there could be anything else?

    Best regards,

    Jorge

    Hi Jorge.

Hmm. I think I'm becoming confused as to what you mean by 'value'. Which quantity are you referring to when you say "Transmission and Distribution value"? In the simplest case, when you add a simple non-dispatched module for Transmission and Distribution, and you enter efficiency data as: losses, then perhaps by 'value' you mean losses, since that's the only input requirement for such a module.

As long as you haven't specified an additional output fuel branch as Transmission and Distribution:Output Fuels, and have instead controlled the output fuel for the Transmission and Distribution module in the Losses tab, you shouldn't see your outputs doubling.

Does this help? I'm not completely sure that I understand your question.

    Hi Taylor

This is what's happening. In my model I have a total production of electricity (generation module) of 120 GWh. I know the losses (T&D module) are about 25% of that total production.

So, when I go to the results part and see the bar graphs and table views of Transformation Outputs, I see the generation of 120GWh and adittional T&D of 90GWh, and that sums about 210 Gwh. (???)

I think I don't know how to represent what I want into the modules. Or maybe it is telling me something that I don't understand.

    Thank you Taylor!

    Best Regards

Alright, I think I see what you mean. When you view Transformation:Outputs (showing two branches, one for T&D and one for Electricity generation), it isn't very instructive to look at the total of the two bars, stacked one on top of the other. Individually, the two bars that appear simply represent the total output of the branch, regardless of the fact that the output of the electricity branch is really used as input for T&D.

If you feel that there is potential for your readers to be confused by this (this is understandable, by the way), you could select Chart:Bar Options:Side by Side from LEAP's main menu when you display the chart, to make it a little more explicit.

A few diagnostic hints: it's often worth checking the Energy balance view, so you understand where your GWh are coming from and going to. It's also instructive to look at the Module Energy Balance (one of the available charts under Show:Transformation), for a bit more detail.

    Hope that helps,

    Taylor

That was it, I saw the Energy Balance view and it was OK.
Thanks so much for the advice it was really helpful!
