    Hello,
    I have this aspects that I want to represent in my model and don't know how, hope to get some help;

I have certain quantity of Crude Oil production, from which an important part is exported.
If my domestic consumption increases that exportations are going to be reduced in order to meet that shortfall.

So, what happens in my model, is that when I put an export target (which happens to be the actual exports of the base year) it remains the same in time and crude oil would have to be imported, instead of reducing the actual exports. If I don't put any export target, that surplus of production goes to exports as Oil Products, and not as Crude Oil.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!
    Jorge

    Hi Jorge,

I think that there could be a few reasons that you're seeing this outcome. A careful read of the Output Fuel Properties online help should address your question, I hope.

    http://www.energycommunity.org/WebHelpPro/Wizards_and_Properties/Output_Fuel_Wizard.htm

I'm assuming that you've explicitly specified Crude Oil as an output fuel, within some sort of an Oil Refining module? In that case, make sure that the three rules for the Crude Oil output fuel are set properly for your purposes: it sounds like you want the "Priority use of output" to be "Exports", the "Surplus Rule" to be "Export Surplus", and the "Shortfall Rule" to be "Requirements remain unmet". That way if, as your demand grows, there is insufficient crude to export directly as crude oil, the remainder of your Export Target will remain unmet.

Hoping I've scraped the surface of your question!

    Taylor

    Hi Taylor,

Thanks for your answer, I was testing and did what you told me, got way better results, but there are still some things that I don't understand (now there are some high unmet requirements appearing)

As you said, I did put Crude Oil within an Oil Refining module, but I'm not sure if that's the better way of doing it, would be better if I create an "Oil Extraction" module? having the same situation of imports/shortfalls

    Best Regards

    Jorge

    Hi Jorge,

What you suggest seems like a good way of handing your crude oil export demand, that way you don't complicate your existing Oil Refining module (which may produce other desirable petroleum products). Just make sure that you insert it in your tree beneath any existing Oil Refining branch that you've already created.

    Best,
