    Dear Taylor,

My research focuses on investigating the portfolio of power generation technologies to meet future electricity demands and carbon emission constraints. My interest in the Transformation Analysis is more in constructing electricity generation module compared to including all current modules and potential future modules.

Hence, my question is that would it be valid if I only consider modules of Distribution Losses and Electric Generation in the Transformation analysis for building a simpler and less data intensive transformation model to meet my research purposes?

If it would be technically feasible to run such simple transformation model in LEAP, do you think it would be still necessary to conduct a more comprehensive transformation analysis which includes more completed transformation modules in an energy system in order to receiving better modelling results for my research?

Thanks a lot for your advices in advance!

    Cheers,
    Yue

    Hi Yue,

I think it's up to you to decide! Certainly there are no technical problems with running LEAP with only electricity generation and transmission + distribution on the supply-side, and only electrical demands on the demand-side. Whether this is sufficient in scope for the conclusions you're trying to reach in your research is up to you, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

Also, don't feel that using only one or two modules constitutes a 'simple' model. Electrical Generation models can be as complex as you'd like them to be.

    Good luck,

    Taylor

    Hi Taylor,

Thanks for your positive confirmation that running LEAP with only electricity generation and transmission + distribution losses on the supply-side is feasible!

As a beginner of using LEAP, I am a bit intimidated by the intensity of data collection and complexity of energy supply system if I would like to include more modules in the Transformation analysis.

With reminding of your comments, I do feel that I perceived transformation analysis with only one or two modules as a simple analysis was not accurate. I guess I will conduct my supply-side analysis with only electricity generation first to fully understand its complexity and the functions of LEAP model.

    Many thanks!

    Cheers,
    Yue
