    hi.
i was working with introducing Ethanol-blended-gasoline in transportation sector of Nepal. currently all gasoline vehicles uses pure gasoline. so how could i introduce something like E10 or any other blend ratio) by making a scenario. i have already projected the gasoline demand upto 2050. I have an idea of taking the demand results in excel and make further calculation related to introducing E10, but how can i do, if possible, in Leap.

for eg: car/jeep uses about 0.1 TeraJoules (but of pure gasoline in 2013, the first scenario year). so if i were to partially replace this energy with E10, how can i model it?

    thanks in advance

    Hi Suman,

One strategy would be to create two separate processes under your transportation demand branch, for each fuel type. You would then be able to control the relative contributions of each fuel to the total activity level of the branch, as well as the energy intensity of each fuel.

As more ethanol is added in later years, you can alter the ratio of gasoline to ethanol as you scenario progresses.

    Hope this helps!

i have a base year population and i need to grow it in future in certain numbers of growth rates. if i am not wrong then the growth function can take no more than 7 rates. so how can i make it grow in future years

    Hi Suman,

You're right, the growth function only supports seven different growth rates during different periods. For most purposes, this is quite sufficient, since each growth rate can span any number of years. If you input 'Growth(X%)' for a particular variable, that rate (X%) determines the growth in the variable for all future years.

If you'd like to gave more control over the values in each year, perhaps you would have better luck with the Interp() function, which allows you to specify any number of year/value pairs. Otherwise, you may find a function suited to your needs to browsing through LEAP's built-in functions, using the 'Function Wizard'.

    Do that answer your question?

can you help me with the data for creating a new fuel named E10 and E20 to put down in fuel database in LEAP.. i only have data for heating value and density .. the other data like C,O,N content are not available
i encounter a problem stating "E10 is not a valid floating point" when i try to put a new fuel name with E10. can't we add new fuel of our own??

    Hi Suman,

You shouldn't be receiving an error when you try to create a new fuel. That error sounds as if you were trying to add some text into a field designed only to hold a number. Are you selecting the green 'plus' sign, in the top left corner of LEAP's fuels window? If so, let me know exactly what you're doing and I'll look into it.

There are no doubt some sources available that would catalog the carbon and nitrogen content of an E10 blend. Have a look at a place like the IEA's Advanced Motor Fuels page (http://iea-amf.org/content/fuel_information/ethanol). Otherwise, you can create a blend yourself in LEAP, since E10 contains 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline, by volume, both of which are fuels that exist in LEAP's database.

    Good luck,

    Taylor

can we view results for the combination of multiple scenarios?
    eg:
scenario RAIL: introducing railway by 2020
scenario PUB: increasing the share of large buses from 20 in 2012 to 70% by 2050.

i know that i can construct new scenario which incorporates both RAIL and PUB (by duplication each time).. but i have modeled for 3 GDP growth rates and each one has separate scenarios for RAIL (eg: RAIL-lowGDP,RAIL-medGDP,RAIL-highGDP) but not for PUB (since in my model PUB is a not funtion of GDP).so it would be quite cumbersome to take PUB and draw more separate scenario.. is there any way which i can use just by selecting, for example RAIL-lowGDP + PUB, and view result without having to construct separate scenarios????

Hi Suman, there certainly is a way! What you want to create is, in LEAP, referred to as a Mitigation scenario, or the sum of several other scenarios. You need to create a new scenario that inherits expressions from each of component scenarios that you want you include, by adding them to the inheritance tree (using the green 'plus' sign) in the Manage Scenarios window.

Have a read through this help page if you need further clarification:
