    Hi there,

I appreciate your advice on the “best” analysis (activity, stock, transport) that can be used with regard to the transport sector in Bahrain. The available data are as follows:

    -Car stock (a published number)
    -New vehicles number (published)
-Fuel economy of both the old and new vehicles (estimated)
    -Distance travelled (roughly estimated)
    -Total fuel consumption

There are no published nor estimated data on the load factor and intensity. So, what do recommend using in order to get projections of CO2 emissions and energy demand?

One more question please, how exactly can I deal with the new vehicles and car stock? I’d like to examine the effect of introducing fuel economy standards on new vehicles and therefore I need to distinguish between the two groups. How can I present the stock turnover after 15 or 20 years?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Maha,

It sounds like you're on your way to gathering the data required for a stock turnover model of the transportation sector. Don't worry about having to find data on emissions intensity - you'll be able to calculate it using the fuel economies of each vehicle, their activity levels (perhaps measured in number of passenger-km, for example), and the composition of the fuel. LEAP provides you with a a database of fuel properties, such as gasoline and ethanol, which will make calculating emissions quite simple.

I suspect it will help you quite a bit to look through Exercise Five of our online training materials, available here (if you haven't already):

    http://www.energycommunity.org/documents/LEAPTrainingExerciseEnglish2012.pdf

This module introduces you to stock turnover analyses within LEAP, which I think is well suited for your study.

At this point though, I'd certainly like to invite other COMMEND members to weigh in on Maha's question!

    Good luck,

    Taylor
