    Dear all,

I've been helping my friend in installing LEAP software. The installation ran successfully, but when we start running the program, it won't open.

There were several error messages appeared and afterwards the program closed automatically. The error messages says like this >>
    -------------------
Error: Access violation at address 013EC05B in module 'leap.exe' Read of address 000009A8
    Type: EAccessViolation
    File: LEAPUtil.pas
    Module: LEAPUtil
    Line: 10011
    Process: GetSysInfo
    -------------------

After the program closed, an "exception" message appear. It says like this >>
    -------------------
Exception 'EOleException' in module leap.exe at 0O15C13E
A script engine for the specified language can not be created

Module: ComObj, Source: UNKNOWN, Line UNKNOWN
    Procedure:_linkproc_DispCallError
    -------------------

    Need help, please.
    Thank you,

    -Pinto-

    Hi Pinto,

    A few more questions:

    a) What are the details of the operating system are you using?

    b) (may be unrelated) Do you have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer, and if so, which version?

The first thing that I would suggest is that you run the LEAP installation file as an Administrator, by right-clicking on the setup.exe file and selecting 'Run as Administrator'. This should ensure that LEAP is properly added to your computer's registry.

If this does not work, I have a few other suggestions. Please continue to let me know exactly which error messages you receive.

    Thanks very much,

    Taylor

    Dear Taylor,

    a) about the OS, we used Windows 7 starter 32-bit
    b) Yes, Microsoft Excel 2007

Okay, maybe I should try re-installing LEAP as an administrator first, then contact you later.

    Thank you,
    -Pinto-

    Dear Taylor,

I've tried re-installing LEAP by click "run as administrator". But the problem still occur.

Looks like we need other suggestion for this problem.

    Thank you,

    Hi Pinto,

For the time-being, can you gain access to another computer running a full (not starter) version of Windows? It is possible that this is causing the problem, though we aren't sure. We'll continue to look into it.

Let me know if this works, and we'll stay in touch.

    Best,

    Taylor

    Dear Taylor,

Yes, the problem didn't occur in any other computer running a full ver. of windows. I've installed LEAP in several computers running a full version of windows 7, windows vista, even windows XP.

Probably this is the main cause. I hope there is any solution for computer using a starter windows OS.

    Thank you for helping,

    Pinto

    Hi Pinto,

What exact version of LEAP are you trying to install? Is it 2012.056? Please check the Help:About screen on one of the computers where you DID manage to get LEAP working OK.

Please also tell me what exact version of Windows starter you are trying to use.

I will try and look into this for v2014 of LEAP but it may be impossible. In general I do not recommend using Windows starter because it has quite a lot of limitations and also is not very well documented online. Assuming you are using 2012.056 then the problem seems to occur when LEAP is checking if the mapping components are installed, but even if they are not there should not normally be an error. This makes me suspect that Windows starter does not support the standard Windows Component Object Model (COM) interfaces that are used widely throughout LEAP. If this is the case, then even if we could get it working it would be unable to talk to Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Thus, I strongly suggest you do NOT use LEAP on Windows Starter.
