    Good day,

    I am doing a thesis research on water-energy nexus and I hope you would help me out. Initially I will be using both WEAP/LEAP to do the water-energy interdependence analysis. (the energy here is only power production "electricity").

    My goal is to model how much energy goes to water production in my country and how much water goes into power production (kwh/m3 and m3/kwh).

    My question is the following;

    Using LEAP, on my key assumption (the demand side) I will be having only water sector demand (WWTP, Desalination & Groundwater pumping).Therefor, I will neglect the household demand since I am not dealing with this variable? also can I leave things like resources, non-energy.

    I am a bit short of time and I was wondering if I can tailor the the software to fit my purpose without going into full details of either LEAP or WEAP.

    Currently I am reading Training Exercises for Integrated
    Water-Energy Planning:Linking WEAP and LEAP so that i can apply similar study on my region.

    thank you so much for your time and support in advance. Apology for the lengthy post and i appropriate any advise.

    Regards

    Hi there,

    The demand branches that you named in your message are only sufficient for capturing the electricity demands of the water system. However, since they do not provide a complete accounting of all electricity needs in your area, you will underestimate the total water required by the energy system (if you want to calculate the total cubic meters of water per kWh of *all* electricity that is produced, not just the kWh that are produced to meet the energy requirements of the water system).

    Nonetheless, you may still restrict the scope of your LEAP model to address only the questions you're interested in. Under Basic Params: Scope & Scale, you can choose to only check the box next to 'Transformation & Resources', leaving others unchecked. You may also choose to use a very simple representation of the non-water system electricity demands in your area. A simple way to do this would be to add Residential, Industrial, etc... electricity demand using the Total Energy branch:

    http://www.energycommunity.org/WebHelpPro/Demand/Total_Energy.htm

    By working through our LEAP/WEAP training exercises, you're doing the right thing to start!

    Hope this helps,

    Taylor
