I am trying to develop a GHG mitigation scenario for DRC and was wondering how to include emissions in the energy conversion process of charcoal making from Wood. LEAP doesn't allow by default to enter emissions on the Feedstock or Output fuel. Can anyone please help!

    Hi Rachit,

I'm not sure what you mean that LEAP won't allow you to enter emissions for feedstock fuels. Are you sure that Energy Sector Environmental Loadings has been enabled, in Basic Params?

When you select the feedstock fuel for your process, you should see a variable called "Environmental Loading". While viewing this variable, select the green "plus" (+) sign on the right side to add a new loading of your choice.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Taylor,

Thank you for your quick response. I am working with Rachit and the we have enabled the Environment Loading but it doesn't work specifically for Charcoal Production. The process we have is Charcoal is being converted into Wood through Traditional Earth Mounds process.

Now to get emissions from this process, we tried two different things:
    1. Add emissions to Feedstock fuels (Wood in this case) by browsing through the TED options and selecting Energy Conversion -> Biomass Conversion -> Charcoal Making -> Earth Kiln

When we clicked ok, the emissions weren't added to Wood fuel.

    2. We tried similar thing on the output fuels (Charcoal) but it didn't give any result (emissions).

Could you please help us. Really Appreciated.

    Ah, I understand.

LEAP's TED feature is not a comprehensive database of emission factors for all processes. For example, the TED branch which you just described does not have any emission factors associated with it at all - it just provides some background information and an estimate of the conversion efficiency of wood into charcoal.

You need to add emission factors manually to the feedstock fuel, by following the process described in my earlier forum post.

    Hope this helps,

    Taylor

Yeah, we actually did that just now. Manually added the emissions with total annual loading of emitted gases.
