I am forecasting the total energy demand for a number of countries and facing 3 issues

    1) THE MODEL IS NOT RUNNING
I cannot run the model. After entering data, when I try to calculate (pressing the result or the energy balance button), I get the following message:

    NO DEMAND RESULTS CALCULATED
    BRANCHE: DEMAND
    SCENARIO: REFERENCE
    YEAR: 2010

    2) I specify Energy intensities for green folders - categories with final energy intensity (and enter the data I have: for industry, household etc.) But I failed to specify energy intensity for technologies in my tree - I do have technologies grey gear icons at the process branche for electricity production.
I also don't have Final Energy Intensity variable anywhere.

    3) Finally, when I try to add effects from the TED technology to my environment loading variables, nothing happens. The effects are not taken into account by my model.

    Many thanks for your help

    Hi Nadia,

I think your problems are related.

When you add technologies under a green category folder on the demand side, then the final energy intensity of the group of technologies (gear icons) is specified at the level of the green category - not at the technology level. Instead, you will assign fuel shares to each of these technologies.

    Have you assigned fuel shares?

    Hi Taylor,
    Thanks for your quick reply!
I didn't add technologies under the green category folder on the demand side; just energy intensities (of the different end-users: households, industry, transport etc.)
And no, I haven't assigned fuel shares to the technologies under the demand branch (because there is no technology that has been added, again only a green folder of energy intensity for each user).
Please find attached a screen capture of my tree.
    Thanks ahead for you help

    Nadia,

I don't see any attached screen capture, sorry.

You must add technology branches under a green category - you cannot specify a final energy intensity without also specifying the type of fuel consumed, which you do by adding a technology or fuel under the category.

Have a look at this help page for additional info:

    Dear Taylor,
Thank you so much for your help. I was able to correct my model by adding the technologies, intensities and share fuels necessary to run the model.
Unfortunately I got a new issue I can resolve and was wondering if I can bother you once again to ask for help.
Indeed, I got an error says "problem with endogenous capacity addition calculations. Check you have specified sufficient capacity". After research in the forum, I saw a previous thread on the same problem:http://tinyurl.com/76t6yt4.
I tried the solution proposed by switching off the Transformation section on the scope tab. in Basic Parameters and then by calculating results. But I couldn't find the demand branches which are incorrect. the calculation (without the gives me a "Read calculation diagnostic message" but then when I click on it I got too much information, I can even know where to start or what is the problem (PLs find atached)

I would like also calculate the share of RES in the gross final energy consumption of my region.
Could you please indicate me how I can modeling this in Leap?

Again, many thanks for your help.
    Cheers
    Nadia

    Hi Nadia,

Double-clicking on any of those diagnostic messages should take you to the part of the tree where the problem is found. From the look of if, many of your percentage shares do not sum to 100% across adjacent branches.

When you disabled Transformation & Resources in Basic Params, and recalculated your results, do you not see any of your demand branches growing wildly in magnitude? Try clicking on the top-level branch called "Demand", and viewing by All Branches. This should allow you to focus in on the sector which is growing too fast, if it exists.

    Hi Taylor,

Once again, thanks you so much for your help.

    1. Unfortunately, I have a limited data availability and then I don't have the data of the fuel shares of all the technologies in my model. e.g. : for the household branche I would have for example electricity and oil but not gas or coal.
I checked the box "do not check that that share values sum to 100%) as I don't have all the shares.
However it looks like that doesn't work and I have to make them equal to 100%. Isn't it? How can I then resolve or workaround this issue (working on African countries, facing an unavailability of lot data).

    2. So when I disable Transformation & Resources in Basic Params, I am facing the issue above mentioned. And, no results. And when I add it, and recalculate my results, I get an "absolute convergence criteria (1000 Gj) larger than total final demand (-1,08819 Gj)" at year 2024. (this quite huge and I don't then want to just make criteria no more than 1% (I tried to do it but it doesn't work neither).

So your help is very very need as I get stuck now.

    Thanks and best.
    Nadia

    Nadia,

Shares should add to 100% of any whole value - if you are lacking data, then your share calculation should be based on the known energy quantities.

I expect that fixing your shares problem will also resolve your negative energy demand.

Never mind my last post, resolved my issue even if it took me to other ones.
    Thanks
