    Hi LEAP team,

Thanks for all the help so far! I had another question:

I'm trying to simulate a cap and trade scenario. I would like to optimize future investments that meet energy demand based off of capital costs. However, whenever I put capital costs into a new facility that has no initial capacity, LEAP won't return an optimized solution - all new renewable facilities remain at zero if their initial capacity is zero even if I have "Unlimited" as the value in the "Primary" "Resources" "Yield" parameter. I looked over example three and it doesn't seem to offer any resolution to my problem either.

I'm wondering if investment optimization is a LEAP functionality, or if I'm completely doing this wrong. I feel like it is, based off of the "Optimized" option in the "Electricity Generation" module, I think I'm just doing something completely wrong.

    Any suggestions are welcome!

    Hello Bri,

Variables found at the Resources branches (such as the Yield) have no effect on LEAP's optimization calculations. When you say that LEAP will not return an optimized solution, do you mean that it will not calculate? Or that the solution is not optimal? Or that you recieve an error?

Before I go into too much more detail, please carefully work through Exercise 6 in our basic training materials (if you haven't already):

This should help to clear things up. Otherwise, we're happy to answer specific questions here in the forums.
