Topic: New User - LEAP database for USA? Publicly available data base too?Subscribe | Previous | Next

    Hi LEAP,

I am a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon's Dept of Engineering and Public Policy. I am looking at GHG and pollutant policies in the US. I am currently learning TIMES-MARKAL but data will not be ready until July and its a very challenging program to use. I am wondering if LEAP might be a better option for me. I have downloaded LEAP and have been reading LEAP materials and have a question. Is there a central database that has county data that LEAP users have already assembled and made public? I am wondering - is there a model for the US yet? If there isn't would it be possible to model energy and emissions policies for the U.S. in LEAP?

    Thank you!

    Mike

Hi Mike, I don't have a useful answer for your question, but maybe an interesting one: while searching for how to enter some fossil fuel extraction data for a model of Pennsylvania, I came across this 1981 study by ORNL using LEAP on the US: http://web.ornl.gov/info/reports/1981/3445602852438.pdf.

The next meeting for our PA project is June 8 in the Pittsburg area, if you want to come! At that point we should have a good model of today's energy flows in PA and a business as usual scenario.

hi Damon, Thank you very much for your reply! I am just seeing it now unfortunately. I am wondering if you have updated links you could send me? Did you end up finishing a model?
    Thanks! Mike

Hi Mike, we are working on some new scenarios that we will present Thursday in Harrisburg. Here's a new DEP link with the meetings: http://www.dep.pa.gov/Business/Energy/OfficeofPollutionPrevention/SolarFuture/Pages/Meetings.aspx

The PA project is called "Finding Pennsylvania's Solar Future" so you can find it that way. The next meeting in 2018 Q1 should be in Pittsburgh.
