    Hello,

Please, how can one model the own consumption in the electricity generation sector? I have data for the type of energy consumed during electricity generation or supply and it appears in the demand sector, but I don't know how to input this into the model? Is there any way I can get around this?

    My Regards

    Hi Nnaemeka,

There are a few ways to include own use in LEAP, depending on the characteristics of the own-use that you wish to capture. Here are some generalizeable ideas:
    1. Add an auxiliary fuel consumption to the transformation process.
    2. Include a separate transformation module to include all own-use (you may thin of this similarily to a module for fuel transmission, which incurs losses for every unit of fuel which passes through the module). This will have the effect of increasing the requirements for fuel production for modules below it in the tree.
    3. Treat the own-use as a final demand, and include it on the demand side of the model.
    4. Modify (i.e. decrease) the individual efficiencies of transformation processes to effectively account for their own-use.
    Hope this helps,
    Taylor
