Topic: Please explain the impact of harmonics on increasing the temperature of 1000 kVA distribution transformerSubscribe | Previous | Next

    The
distribution transformer has an important role in distributing electric
power so that the role of this transformer to operate properly should
    be in stable condition.
    One
of the disturbing conditions of operation is harmonic disturbance that
occurs in electric power distribution system due to distortion of
    current wave and voltage.
    The
high harmonic content in the power system network will cause the
distribution transformer to experience excessive temperature and if not
handled soon the operation of the transformer is shorter. One device
that can damage the distribution transformer is the non-linear load,
including the transformer as a part of the harmonic contributor that
    occurred
    such
as computers, refrigerators, air conditioning in every classroom,
laboratory electronics equipment, and adjustable speed drives (ASD)
contained in the Drawn Texture Yarn (DTY) machine unit.
    This
research was conducted to find out the harmonics and its effect on
temperature increase at the 1000 kVA distribution transformer which is
in Indorama Polytechnic Enclosure area by doing harmonic measurement on
the distribution transformer in burden condition.
    Transformer
loading in accordance with operational expenses in carrying out
academic and administrative activities as well as laboratory.
