Topic: Cannot find the TED (Technology and Environmental Database) button after updating LEAPSubscribe | Previous | Next

Greetings. After the recent update on the LEAP model, I am unable to find the TED button. Please, can someone who help me with this issue?

    Dear Nnaemeka,

Sorry for any confusion. The design of this part of LEAP has been changed in v2018. We no longer use the toolbar to the right of the screen in the Environmental Loadings tabs. We removed this because it was rather inconsistent with the standard approaches for adding and deleting branches in the tree.

Instead we now use the standard add (green plus), and delete (red minus) buttons shown immediately above the main tree data structure in Analysis View.

To add many pollutants from TED, first highlight a technology and then click the new green double plus button. See screenshot attached where that button is circled. You can also right click on a technology and select the same option from the pop up menu.

We will get the training exercises updated in the near future to reflect this change.

    Best,

    Charlie

Thank you very much, Charles, for your reply.

I have added the environmental loadings as you directed to the technologies in the be=ranch, but the "Expression" for each "Effect" in the "Avg Environmental Loading" is zero for all the pollutant. I have attached a file showing the screenshot of a technology including the added environmental effect. I used the IPCC Tier 1 Default Emission factor but the expression were all zero. Please, can you give me some recommendation on it?

    Hi Nnaemeka,

I was unable to reproduce the problem that you are having. Have you tried deleting the effects branches and re-adding the effects?

Also, on a side note, you can always view the TED database in detail by selecting "Technology Database" from the Views menu on the left.

    Thanks,
    Emily

    Hello Emily,

I have tried adding the emissions factor from the TED database but the Expression is still zero. Although I've not added the reference scenario because am still working on the current account, do you think this might be the cause?

    Hi Nnaemeka,

Neither Emily nor I are able to reproduce the problem you're seeing. Can you provide a comprehensive list of steps that you're taking to add the set of emission factors from TED? From looking at your two screenshots, it does not appear that you selected the "LPG w IR Head" branch from TED when you added emission factors into the Analysis view.

    Dear Taylor,

Thank you for your email. After developing the branches and sub-branches in the current account, I selected the technology that I would like to add its emission effect (in my case, I wanted to add coal from the IPCC Tier 1 as shown below (LEAP 4) and after that, the expression was zero as shown in the screenshot (LEAP 3) attached below. Please, can you give me a suggestion on how to go about it?

    Best Regards

    Hi -

I still can't reproduce what you're seeing, but I'm also still not perfectly clear on the order of steps that you're taking.

To add a group of emission factors from TED, do as follows:
    1. In Analysis view, select the branch in your tree under which you want to add emission factors.
    2. Click the ++ button above the tree to add a group of emissions from TED.
    3. Select the set of emission factors you wish to add from the dialog box which appears.
    4. Click Okay.
What is the result you get when you perform these steps?

    Dear Taylor,

Greetings. I used the same steps as you gave but I still can get the values of the emission effect to come up on the expression. I also made sure that the "insert link to TED" button was switched on before selecting the effect. I have not created the reference scenarios and don't know if this is the cause of it? Any suggestion?

    Hi -

Okay, thanks for following up. I'm afraid I'm still not able to reproduce the problem you're seeing. It will not matter whether you have/have not created a reference scenario first, or if you select the option to insert data or insert links to TED. What is the exact name of the branch that you have selected in TED when adding the set of emission factors?

If you like, you may attach your model to this thread or email it to leap@sei-us.org, and we can check if the problem residues only with your model.
