    Hi LEAP staff and community.

I'm in need of some help with a error message I', getting for a LEAP area I'm working at. I had my area working fine, however I had some problems getting the results updating after changing some values in my Excel spreadseheet. Then I'm not sure what did I do, but my area stopped working and showed this error message.

I'm unable to do anything now, can you please give me some advice on how to solve this issue. Thanks very much.

    Hi Javier -

Without more information, I can't say what the issue is. LEAP has undergone a few changes in the last week, so can you also clarify which version you're using?

Please provide a complete set of steps for reproducing the problem, including the step that causes the error to appear. If you find that it's unique to only one model, would you be able to attach it here? Alternatively, you may email to leap@sei-us.org and we can take a look.

    Best,
    Taylor

    Hi Taylor,

    Thanks for your help.

I'm using the 2018.0.1.2 (32-Bit). The error message appears only when I try to run this specific area, but I've had two of my other areas taking too much time to compute, though I cannot say this is related with my Optimize variable situation.

So I was working in an area that was designed before and ran without problems. I was just updating some values in the linked Excel spreadsheet, namely some capacity values for solar, wind and geothermal plants. These were under the Transformation branch, which seems to be the one damaged.

I was facing some troubles to get the LEAP results after changing the values in the spreadsheet, so I created several copies of the area and renamed them. As I was unable to get the area to update to the new capacity values I first deleted all the areas in the LEAP Areas folder, and then updated LEAP to the latest version.

After installing the latest version, I followed the same steps: changed the cell values in the Excel sheet, and the pushed the Results button in LEAP. It started calculating but after reaching 100% it showed the "Optimize variable not present error". I have tried downloading the original file and trying to run it with no success.

    Hi Javier,

Thanks - but I can't follow these steps without your model or your Excel worksheet. Can you share them with me?

    Hi Taylor,

I ran the same model in LEAP installed in other computer and it worked without problem. Also, I tried ti run other models in my computer with information in the transformationbranch and they didn't work either. Other areas freeze LEAP so I have to terminate the process. It is my guess that the problem is not related with this specific area, as it works fine in other computers, but with something in the softwae installed in my pc. I am not sure what the variable missing error means.

    Regards,

    Javier

    Hi Javier -

Interesting. I'd suggest simply uninstalling and reinstalling LEAP on the problem computer. This might be a simple way to resolve the issue.

    Hi,
I encounter the same issue but unlike Javier, I could solve the issue but reinstalling (a couple of time, on window 10, both the 32 and the 64) and switching to another computer.
    Any help?
    Thanks with Regards.

    Hi Nadia,

Were you also trying to import or export Excel data before the error occurred? If you could please provide more information on what you were doing in LEAP just prior to when the error occurred, it will help us reproduce the error and figure out a solution. Feel free to also post screenshots or attach a copy of your file to your forum post to help us better understand the problem (or you could email it to leap@sei.org).

    Thanks!
    Emily
