In our model we have a very detailed transformation sector that includes both crude oil extraction (to allow for aux fuel accounting) as well as petroleum refining. As in most cases, very little crude oil is used in the final demand sectors. In the T&D branch, we included 'crude oil' with a loss rate of 0.45%. In looking at the results, however, the volume of losses is minuscule, and a calculation shows that the T&D activity for crude oil is only the crude oil delivered to final demand sectors. However, nearly all crude oil in the country moves by pipeline to refineries, and that activity is completely lost to the T&D branch. Is there anyway to accurately capture pipeline losses for total crude oil activity? (This would be the same for natural gas, to the extent that natural gas to power plants would not be captured in the T&D branch). Thanks.
