Topic: Cost of Production per Time SliceSubscribe | Previous | Next

    Greetings,

    1. When the Results process is finished, How do we see Cost of Production per timeslices (i.e. per 365 days)? My timeslices are daily timeslices (365 days), however I can only see Cost of Production per Years.
    2. What is the effect of using greater timeslices resolution (i.e. up to 8760 timelisces at 8760 hours) compared to lesser timeslices resolution (i.e. 365 days)? Because when we're using greater timeslices resolution, we still can not see the value of Cost of Production per our timeslices. So what is the point of using detailed timeslices resolution then?

Thank you for anyone who will answer my question.

    Hi Wicaksono,

Load duration curves are used for dispatching electricity processes in LEAP:

While you can create time slices representing seasonal, monthly or even daily variations in energy loads to have a more accurate representation of power generation processes, using hourly time slices is not recommended as it can significantly slow down LEAP's processing time.

Furthermore, LEAP is generally intended for examining medium- to long-term energy and emissions trends using scenario analysis. Analyzing hourly energy requirements is not often necessary for this type of long-term planning exercise.

    Thanks,
    Emily

    Hi Ghosh

Thank you for your explanation. I know about the drawback of using hourly time slice. However, We still want to know it and calculate it for our research.

And I beg your pardon, there is still one question that you haven't answered yet. I write down again the question and I hope that the question is clear and you would answer the question.

    The question is:

When the Results process is finished, How do we see Cost of Production per timeslices (i.e. per 365 days)? My timeslices are daily timeslices (365 days in a year), however I can only see Cost of Production per Years, not in every single day that I hope to see.

We want to see cost of production calculation for EACH TIMESLICE (whether is hourly, daily, etc) and NOT in cumulative value in a year. How to do it?

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Wicaksono

    Hi Wicaksono,

Sorry for the delay in responding. LEAP does not have a results view showing Cost of Production by timeslice. The Cost of Production is shown per year since some costs - such as capital costs, fixed O&M costs, etc.- are not divided by time slice, but are given for the year.

You are interested in knowing the costs that do vary by time slice, such as variable O&M costs and fuel costs, you can calculate these manually in Excel. To do this, first export the results for Transformation: Average Power Dispatched (since this result can be viewed by timeslice), and then multiply the results using the cost assumptions for variable O&M cost and fuel cost from the Analysis View. Note that the Transformation: Average Power Dispatched results are given in MW, so you will need to multiply this value by the number of hours in a timeslice to get the MWH.

Thanks and I hope this helps,
    Emily
