I tried opening the backup file I received from my fellow students. But it shows error as in screen shot attached.

I tried multiple copies but same result. As far as i know, they do use latest version of leap.

I am not sure if the problem is in my software or theirs or due to some other unprecedented error.

Sorry for the delay in responding. If the file was created in the same version of LEAP as the one you are using, I am unsure of why there would be a BDE issue (I believe BDE is used to convert older files to the newest version). Have you tried running LEAP as an administrator?

I asked them to reinstall the LEAP and recreate the back up file. It worked thereafter.

It must have been some minor bugs in system.
