Hi! I am Surya from IIT-Delhi. I am currently researching on the fuel consumption, energy demand and their impacts on environment of individual states of India. So, my problem here is I have to enter data in bulk for 29 states. Is there a way, where I could prepare a whole excel sheet and LEAP would read the entire excel in one go and make data tree and configure their values. Please help me out guys. I really am looking forward to understand this.

    Thanks,
    Surya

    Hi Surya,

You can use the Create Branches from Excel wizard accessed through Analysis menu to create new branches from Excel while also importing data. The limitation of using this method to create a branch structure is that that it cannot create child branches. For more information on using this method, refer to the following help page: https://www.energycommunity.org/Help/Supporting_Screens/Create_Branches_From_Excel.htm?

If you want to have a more organized branch structure with category and sub-category branches, and technology branches, I suggest creating the branch structure first. Note that you can use the copy and paste function by right-clicking on a branch to create multiple copies of the same branch. If you are creating a multi-regional model where each region represents a state, create one region as the template, and have each region inherit the branch structure and any data/expressions.

After creating the branch structure, you can export the branch variables into Excel through the Export to Excel wizard (accessed through the Analysis menu). After you update the data/expressions in Excel, import the data into LEAP through the Import from Excel wizard. For for information on importing/exporting data from Excel, refer to the following help pages:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Emily,
The same problem has also confused us for a long time. We haven't figured it out how to create/update branches from the excel. We can only use the function "sheet1!A5:L37", and it can only show us the two columns of the data. Could you please tell us how to analyze the all data in an excel at one time? Please give us some advice or suggestions in detail, such as the relevant functions, the detailed methods and the corresponding information. Thank you for your help! Roses, roses all the way!
    Yours,
    Marex

    Hi Marex,

Thanks for your question. In order to import data from excel, you will need to name the range of cells in Excel containing the data. To define a name for a cell range in Excel, refer to the following help page:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Define-and-use-names-in-formulas-4d0f13ac-53b7-422e-afd2-abd7ff379c64#bmquickly_name_a_cell_or_range_of_cells

After you name the range, you should be able to see it in LEAP within the "Range" option. Then it should copy in all of the data.

    Hope this helps!

    Emily

    Hi Emily,
You help and advice have hugely supported our subject. But, still, we are not figure it out. I have done what you have told me, maybe I'm too naive and young, things still get wrong. The name of the data can be found in the Range Option, but it told me there are some errors in it. Really appreciate your help. Danke dir!

    Marex

    Hi Binjie -

Sorry for the wait on this. Can you also post a picture or attach the document itself) of your Excel document, which contains the named range?

    Hi, both -

Sorry for the wait. I'm afraid I can't access your file, and I wonder if it's due to the character encoding in the file name. Could you try renaming it and re-uploading it?

Based on your screenshot, though, it doesn't look like LEAP would recognize any of that information. Which cells are part of the contiguous range of cells that you are trying to use to create branches? Note that LEAP requires that you name the range before atttempting the import.
