    Hi

I have just started learning LEAP by following the latest version of the manual (2015). I have gotten to Exercise 2: Demand where I have created the Industry category. I followed all the instructions and I have checked all the figures I entered over and over. They align with what is in the manual.

But when I get to the Viewing results stage (see section 2.1.3, page 35 of 2015 manual) I cannot generate the table. I keep seeing this error message. I have attached a screenshot below.

I would be so grateful for any assistance!

    Kind regards
    Stephanie

    Hi Stephanie,

The problem you are seeing is related to your demands growing too fast, leading to insufficient supply capacity. This problem is usually due to a mistake in the inputs entered. I suggest that you turn off the Transformation module (go to Basic Params, and deselect Transformation & Resources in the Scope and Scale tab) and then run the model. Verify the demands for each sector, especially the units, in the Results View to make sure they are correct. If it is fine, then there could be an issue in the inputs in the Transformation module.

If you are getting an error while completing the tutorial, you can always compare the inputs in your model to completed versions of each training exercise by opening the Freedonia model provided in LEAP. To do this, save your own model, then open the sample dataset through Area->Open->Freedonia. Then go to Area->Revert to Version to view the relevant exercise.

    Hope this helps,
    Emily

    Hi Emily

I went through my inputs and fixed a few that were wrong. Everything is fine now. Thanks very much for your help!

    Kind regards

    Hi,
I'm having problems to define the Energy intensity of the Natural Gas boilers (2.1.2 Reference Scenario). The Manual tells us to use the expression:

    Coal*0.9

(Spoiler alert: that doesn´t work because "Unrecognized reference: "coal" ..." or whatever)

After that, I check on the "Freedonia" area which already has this defined and in there the Natural Gas Energy intensity is defined as:

    Coal:Final Energy Intensity [GJ]*90%

and that does´t work either in my "New Freedonia" because "Bad character: ":" ..."

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Hi Dario,

The Coal*0.9 expression only works if the adjacent branch is named "Coal". Since you have named the adjacent branch as"Calderas Carbon", your expression will need to be written as Calderas Carbon * 0.9.

    Hope this helps,
    Emily
