Topic: A little help with cost-benefits interpretationSubscribe | Previous | Next

    Hi everyone!

I have just finished my model and I'm a little bit confused about the cost-benefit results. When compared with the reference scenario all the other alternatives scenarios have negative values. I don't know much about economics, but I guess when we have an NPV negative that means that the project shouldn't go ahead. Is that what it means in this case?
Could somebody help me with the interpretation of these results?
    The table is attached.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Morjana -

The negative NPV of your two Transição Energética scenarios, relative to Referência is the result of subtracted the cumulative, discounted costs of the Referência scenario from the cumulative, discounted costs of another scenario. So, a negative value indicates the the Referência scenario costs *more*, or in other words, your Transição Energética scenarios would incur savings relative to Referência.

    Hope this helps,
