Topic: Energy balance in Freedonia Tutorial (Oil imports)Subscribe | Previous | Next

    Hello,

I have been doing the Freedonia tutorial. While checking 3.6 Viewing Results, for some reason, instead of importing crude oil to meet the secondary fuel requirements (183.6 M Gigajoule), the software imports 21.6 M GJ of Oil.
I checked the troubleshooting energy balances, without positive results. The rest of the transformations and demand seems fine. I would appreciate guidance, please.
    Thanks

    Ignacio.

    Hi Ignacio,

It appears that your model is not producing enough oil products, which is why you are getting a high level of oil imports. I recommend reviewing all of the input variables in the oil refining process module to ensure they are correct, including the process share, process efficiency and exogenous capacity.

    Thanks,
    Emily

    Hi Emily,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply.
I checked again the oil refining process module, with an special focus on the process share, process efficiency and exogenous capacity tabs. Again, I'm having the same differences with the Freedonia example model.
Is there anything else I can check?
    Regards,
    Ignacio

    Hi Ignacio,

It looks like the imported value of 21.6 GJ matches with the oil demands in the industry sector of 21.6 GJ. I would check the industrial demands to make sure that you specified the correct fuel in your demand branches, especially where an oil product is used. If you entered a different fuel than the ones the oil refinery is producing, this fuel will be imported in (like you are seeing).

    Thanks,
    Emily
