    Dear colleagues,

Is it possible to model lighting energy demand in lumen hour and lighting technology with efficiency in lumen/W, so that one can analyse the policy on penetration of efficient lighting technology. Please let kindly me know your suggestion, if one should do in terms of energy or lumen hour ?

Yes - you will need to specify the lumens as an activity level variable. You will also need another variable to describe the hours of lighting per year. You may want to use a user-defined variable for the hours. Then, you can specify the energy intensity of different light bulbs as kWh/lumen-hr.

    Something like this:

    Activity Level (AL) = Households x Number of Light bulbs/HH x Share of a Particular Type of Light bulb x Hours of Use x Lumens/Bulb = HH x [Bulbs/HH] x [Fraction] x [Hrs] x [Lumens/Bulb] = [Lumen-Hrs]
    Energy Intensity (EI) = KWh/Lumen-hrs

Energy demand = AL x EI

Thank you Charlie. I am trying a case following your instructions. Thank you so much.

    Dear Charlie

Thank you once again for your help.

I could manage to get the calculation done correctly for small case, by
defining number of households, lumens of light per households, duration per
households at different levels as activity and then defining technology with
share and energy intensity at the lowest level. But, I wanted to define duration
per households in hour (LEAP defined as per Lumens of light based on unit of previous activity level (Please see the picture)), however, could not use a non-energy unit, so I defined
as unspecified. I enclosed the picture, it would be nice if I could use hour,
    it would look correctly.
Please let know if you have better advice.

    I tried to
use the User Variables, but was not successful. I searched the document LEAPTrainingExerciseEnglish2015
for some description, but it is not there. It may be a useful feature, so I would be interested to know how to use it. Would be grateful if you could kindly share some
presentation/materials that explain the User Variables.

    Thanking you in advance

    Best regards

    Anjana

    Hi Anjana,

If you would like to create/add new units, like "hours", refer to the following help page: https://www.energycommunity.org/Help/Supporting_Screens/Units.htm

To learn how to create User Variables, refer to this webpage: https://www.energycommunity.org/Help/Supporting_Screens/User_Variables.htm

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

    Thanks,
    Emily

    Hi Emily

Unit worked, now it looks good. I will look into the Users Variable materials.

    Thanks you
