Topic: Shortfall Rule error in power sector optimization using LEAP2020Subscribe | Previous | Next
  • Joko Santosa 1/9/2021

    Hello,
We have a LEAP database that worked very well with LEAP2018.
We decided to migrate to LEAP2020. But, when we run the database with LEAP2020 there was an error message on shortfall rule in the power sector optimization. I put 'Import to meet shortfall' in the shortfall rule. This happened in all optimizers (NEMO or Osemosys with CPLEX or other solvers). In the base year, the electricity production does not meet the demand based on our statistic. It means that we should have import of electricity in the base year. Did we miss something? It would be really appreciated if you could give us some help on this problem.

    Best regards,
    Joko

    Dear Joko,

Sorry for the problems. We adjusted how optimization-based scenarios handled imports in LEAP2020 vs LEAP2018. We now disallow the option of setting "Imports to Meet Shortfalls". Instead I suggest that you add an extra generation process to the electricity generation module and name it "Imports" (or similar) with a feedstock fuel of electricity. This allows you to fully specify capacity constraints on imports as needed. Finally, under the Resources\Secondary\Electricity branch set the "Unmet Requirements" variable to MeetWithImports.

    I hope this helps,

    Charlie
