Could you please explain the principle and meanings of calculation equations down the tab of Optimized New Capacity of Processes branch in baseline scenario of Time Slice Demo? Any supports would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Liya

The Optimized New Capacity variable is the place where NEMO and OSeMOSYS write back into LEAP the results of their calculations of the optimal capacity expansion. LEAP then uses these values in its own Transformation calculations. Notice that the variable always has an extra comment showing when it was calculated and by which framework/solver. NEMO and OSeMOSYS also calculate the optimal level of dispatch for each process in every time slice of every calculated year of the scenario. However, these results are not visible in an Analysis View tab as they vary by time slice.

Notice that the Optimized New Capacity variable is only visible in scenarios that are marked to be optimized (marked using the Optimize variable at the module level). In scenarios that use simulation-based scenarios, you can use the Endogenous Capacity variable to specify what capacity gets added in a scenario.

Both simulation and optimization scenarios allow you to specify Exogenous Capacity that is added regardless of the simulation or optimization calculations. If you specify too much exogenous capacity then the simulation and optimization calculations may decide to not add any additional capacity.

Notice also that the Merit Order and Dispatch Rule variables do not appear for optimization-based scenarios. They are not needed because NEMO or OSeMOSYS will decide how much to dispatch (while trying to meet demands and minimize costs).
