Topic: Handling Insufficient Capacity Additions issueSubscribe | Previous | Next

    Hi all,

I have recently discovered this discussion in the forum: https://leap.sei.org/default.asp?action=thread&tid=5572&fid=22. I have just the same issue. When running my model, the solver (I am using NEMO cbc) finds an optimal solution. However the warning message “Optimization unable to build all needed capacity in and after year 2022” (model’s base year is 2021) appears.

This issue occurs with the default option “Stop calculations and report an error in LEAP” selected in “Handling Insufficient Capacity Additions” in the “Optimization” settings tab. As explained in past posts I assume this error has to be with the “UNSERVED” hidden process. Nevertheless I should note that the default option seems to be the only possible option possible in my current laptop since if I select another one option and close the settings window, the default option appears again when I reopen the settings window. I have checked this error in the old computer of a colleague and this “new” issue didn’t occur. Indeed, the model found and returned an optimal solution with the “Continue calculations and create a warning diagnostic message in LEAP”. On this concern I have a worry and it’s how reliable the solution found by LEAP is. We used the LEAP 2020.1.0.107 (64 bit) version in both computers.

    Best regards,

    Iigo

Please check whether you have any constraints that are preventing new capacity from being added. I would also suggest updating to the latest version of LEAP (currently 2024.1.0.7) which provides new options for optimization modeling.
