Topic: Energy by-product for an industrial process Subscribe | Previous | Next

I am calculating the energy scenario for an industry. In one of the particular industries, it takes some energy inputs and along with the material output in tons, the waste heat is used to generate electricity. Is there any way to put this data in LEAP? Under the demand section, I can't include by-product energy. Under the transformation section, since the main output is not energy, I can't use it. The attached figure shows, what I want to model.

It will be very helpful if anyone can help me in this matter.

    Dear Biswajit,
One of the simple way i could suggest is to create a heat recovery plant on transformation, link up the Exogenous capacity of the plant with any of the industrial sector variable, let's say energy input. For exogenous capacity, derive a formula to calculate the capacity assuming a specific process efficiency , and specific process share or assume it to run at full capacity, in MW per GJ of energy input.. The output will follow the pattern of industry. The demerit is that it will not follow the total heat demand pattern, but the industrial energy use pattern.
